The stream sort takes place in fall and gives students a glimpse of the range of research being done in the FRI.  This can then inform the placement of students within streams.

Many students receive fellowships to continue researching in the summer following their freshman year.

The FRI Wiki is used by some streams as a teaching and collaboration tool.
